I wrote of my involvement in the Artemis II mission in my Art and Artemis post and have since worked the mission and edited our team’s reports (releasing publicly this fall). I have known for a long time one of the ways I wanted to commemorate the mission was with a tattoo – and I finally have! It took me a while to think of what elements I wanted to include and find the right artist. The wait was worth it, because I am absolutely in love with the tattoo. Tattoo Elements
- Farside of the Moon: the unique destination which the crew observed for six hours on Flight Day 6.
- Moon in color: based on the subtle hues of the Moon, meticulously compiled by photographer Andrew McCarthy, working with Commander Reid Wiseman
- Four stars: to represent the four crew who brought us on the journey with them.
- Beaded bracelet: a reference to the ones I wore during the mission, including a Moon Joy one I made late one night during mission. Also, the commander wore his own beaded bracelets from his daughters.
- Moon Joy: our new team motto, which was born during the mission. The work is serious, but the crew, the team, and the science accomplished is also joyful.
- Earth stamp: a reminder of home and the connection inherent in the Earth-Moon
